Like many before him, Benny Fisher tackles the grand theme of love and relationships on his new single Love Come Back.
With its blend of keyboards, flute, acoustic guitar and nursery rhyme call-and-response vocals, the mood of Love Come Back takes several twists and turns.
Benny says: “At the start, the narrator is reflective and sorry for himself. In the second half, the outlook brightens (‘now that I’m a better man’) and there’s more hope of saving the relationship (‘let’s turn this freefall into a dance.’).”
Post-pandemic, Love Come Back is the latest in a run of singles that Benny has created at home on limited equipment: a Tascam 8-track digital recorder, a Yamaha keyboard, a Martin acoustic and effect pedals. Benny sings and plays all instruments and does not use a computer for recording or mixing.
Benny says: “My studio set-up has its pros and cons, but I think having limitations has generally been a good thing and helped me find a sound.”
Adding backing vocals is Colin Macdonald, an American expat who, like Benny, lives in Bologna, Italy. Colin was a successful 2022 contestant in the Italian edition of The X Factor.
Benny says: “Colin is from Philadelphia and so much amazing music has come out of that city. With his soulful harmonies, I am so happy Colin joined in and brought some true Philadelphia spirit to the party.”
