The Persuaders

The Persuaders was the group I formed in London with Leigh Wildman, formerly guitarist with The Seers (Bristol psychedelic rock, Cherry Red records), James Hadley on bass and Erik Terwisscha van Scheltinga on drums. I answered an advert Leigh placed in Melody Maker looking for people to form a band. These recordings date from 1994-95. The live songs are from a gig in January 1995 at The Orange, which was a nice venue in Kensington. We also played the Islington Powerhaus; Rock Garden; St John's Tavern, Archway; Dublin Castle, Camden; and the Boat Race, Cambridge. Leigh had two vintage 100 watt Marshall stacks from his days with The Seers. The home recordings ( Touched and Stay Evergreen) were made in Leigh's flat near Finsbury Park with a Tascam reel-to-reel. Exciting and wonderful afternoons getting lost in the music. Leigh went on to open Delta of Venus, the pop paraphernalia boutique in Drummond Street near Euston Station.
